So, it feels kind of weird referring to my own closet as a “dream,” but that really is the way I feel every time I look at it.
My husband and I designed the new house ourselves, and I put a lot of work into planning out what I wanted my closet to be.
To see it come to life a little bit at a time and to now be able to use it every day is so special to me, and I’m so grateful for it.
That’s why I’m excited to take you all on a virtual tour of my closet, pointing out some cool features and accents along the way! Let’s get started…
To the left, to the left
…side of my closet, I’ve got a bunch of adjustable shelving for shoes, a 6ft tall rack for dresses, and then another section of shelving.
I love that the shelves can be moved up or down, because it allows me to add enough space on the bottom for some taller boots, and then make up that space with smaller shelves for flats and sandals.
For a while, I was bothered by the sloped ceiling in my closet, but it came together nicely and it gives the top shelves a little more character. I use these areas for larger bags, shoe boxes, or other favorite pieces that I want to display.
Both sides of the closet are organized seasonally, so closer to the front are Spring and Summer items, and since Fall and Winter are a little farther away, the back sections are dedicated to those.
In the center of it all…
are a beautiful chandelier, a nice long window, and a comfy bench with fun throw pillows. It’s nice to have a little natural light coming into the room, and once this quarantine madness is over I’m excited to get the window fitted for prettier blinds and curtains.
The bench was one of the first items we purchased for our new house! It’s from Wayfair and a perfect height for below the window. It’s also tall enough for me to fit some storage baskets underneath. The baskets hold extra pairs of sandals and flip flops, my dance shoes, and my winter accessories such as scarves, hats, and gloves.
The chandelier is also from Wayfair, and I love the cool pattern it creates on the ceiling when turned on!
It feels so right…
on the right side of the room, where I’ve got a double rack for tops, some drawers and display shelves in the center, another double rack on the opposite side, and some EXTRA storage behind the double doors.
The double racks are great for all of my t-shirts, tanks, jackets, etc. I was originally worried that the height of these racks would be limiting, but they’re a great fit for the closet, and my clothes fit onto them perfectly!
The doors and drawers both feature crystal skull knobs—those of you who have read my previous posts know how much I love skulls, and how amazing of a find these were for me! A set of eight was reasonably-priced on Amazon, and there were a couple of different color options, too.
I really love how the skull knobs pull more of my personality and taste into the closet, but the real star of the show is the center shelving area above the drawers.
In addition to storing my jeans, sweaters, and workout clothes, these shelves hold most of my favorite things: my designer items that I keep in their dust bags and boxes for maximum care, as well as some other meaningful trinkets.
The glass skull is an empty Skullhead Vodka bottle; I don’t think I need to say more about why I wanted this or why I love it. The other glass bottle holds sand from a beach in Maui where we went on our honeymoon. The framed quote is one of my favorites about fashion, and it’s Coco Chanel, so clearly fits in here.
This side of the closet is also organized by season, with Spring and Summer tops towards the front and more of my heavy sweaters and Fall pieces in the back.
I also chose to add some LED strip lights to the closet shelves and racks. I saw an example of these online and liked them, but once installed they far exceeded my original expectations! They’re wired to the same light switch as the chandelier, so I flip that switch whenever I want to take getting ready to the next level. 😉
As far as other details go, the floors are hardwood and the stain color is called Pickled Oak. All of the paint colors in our house are Behr. The walls of my closet are the color In the Spotlight and the shelves are a glossy white.
We’re not done yet!
Well, we are done with the tour…but like many other spots in the house, my closet is still awaiting some finishing touches.
This blank wall will hold a full mirror, once I find the right one. Luckily, I haven’t been going out much lately, but once I start going back into work I might need a better view of whether my outfits actually match…
There’s also a big open space on the right side of the closet, and our contractor had the great idea of adding a makeup vanity there. I’m on the lookout for a good one of those, too. Luckily, there’s plenty of space to work with!
That officially completes the closet tour! Drop a comment below to let me know what you think, if you have any questions or suggestions, or if you know of some good places to shop for a mirror and vanity!
And while you’re at it, don’t forget to let me know which room of the house you want to see next! Lots of people on the Instagram were leaning towards our Master Bedroom, so I guess I should make my bed and get started on that post.
Thank you for being here. More house details to come, along with my usual fashion, food, and bookish posts. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy celebrating Mother’s Day as best you can! <3
